How to Practice Reading
The Reading module is designed to feel like a timed IELTS-style reading test. You read each passage, answer the questions, and then see your band score when you submit.
Before you begin
When you open a reading test, you first see a start screen with:
- the test title
- the number of passages
- the total number of questions
- the 60-minute time limit
Click Start Now when you are ready. The timer begins immediately.
The Reading timer cannot be paused. If time runs out, the app submits your answers automatically.
How the screen is laid out
| Area | What you'll do there |
|---|---|
| Top passage buttons | Move between Passage 1, Passage 2, and Passage 3. |
| Left reading area | Read the current passage. |
| Right question area | Answer the questions for that passage. |
| Bottom question-number grid | Jump to the passage linked to a question number. |
| Timer bar at the top | Track how much time is left. |
What kinds of questions you may see
Reading tests can include several common IELTS-style question types, such as:
- True / False / Not Given
- Yes / No / Not Given
- multiple choice
- matching
- sentence or note completion
- questions that use a word bank
The question area changes automatically based on the question type, so just follow what you see on screen.
Moving through the test
A simple flow is:
- Read the current passage on the left.
- Answer the questions shown on the right.
- Use the top passage buttons to move to the next passage.
- Use the number grid at the bottom if you want to jump quickly by question number.
- When you are done, click Submit Test.
You do not need to finish one passage perfectly before looking at another. You can move back and forth between passages during the test.
How your band score is calculated
After you submit, the app counts how many answers were correct and converts that total into an estimated IELTS band score on the 0-9 scale.
In short:
- more correct answers = higher band score
- fewer correct answers = lower band score
Your result screen shows both:
- your Band Score
- your correct answers out of the total
Reviewing your answers
After submitting, you can click Review Answers.
In review mode, the app shows:
- which answers were correct
- which answers were wrong
- the correct answer for questions you missed
This is a good time to check patterns in your mistakes before you try another test.
After the test
From the results area, you can:
- go back to the Practice Library
- review your answers
- try again with a new attempt
