How to Practice Writing and Get AI Feedback

The Writing module gives you two IELTS-style tasks to complete, then sends both answers for AI grading.

What you'll see

Task	What to expect
Task 1	A prompt and, when included, a reference chart, graph, or image to describe.
Task 2	A longer essay question.

You start on a timed screen with:

• the test title
• 2 Tasks
• a 60-minute timer
• a task switcher so you can move between Task 1 and Task 2

Click Start Now when you are ready.

Writing Task 1 and Task 2

You can switch between the two tasks at any time while writing.

The left side of the screen shows:

• the current prompt
• any Task 1 image or chart
• the suggested time for that task
• short writing tips

The right side is your writing area.

Watching your word count

Each task has a minimum word target shown on screen.

As you type, the app updates your word count live. The counter turns green when you have reached the minimum for that task.

This helps you see, at a glance, whether you are under the target or safely past it.

Use the task switcher at the top to check both word counters before you submit.

Submitting your writing

You submit both tasks together.

Before the submit button becomes useful, make sure:

• you have written something for Task 1
• you have written something for Task 2

When you click Submit Test:

1. your writing is saved
2. the app starts AI grading
3. you see an "AI is evaluating your writing" loading screen

This usually takes about 10-15 seconds.

:::warning Requires internet AI grading needs an internet connection. Reading and Listening work offline, but Writing feedback does not. :::

Understanding your results

When grading finishes, you receive:

• an overall band score
• a separate breakdown for Task 1 and Task 2
• scores for 4 criteria:
  • Task Achievement
  • Coherence & Cohesion
  • Lexical Resource
  • Grammatical Range
• written feedback covering:
  • strengths
  • areas for improvement
  • suggested improvements

Why Task 2 matters more

Your final Writing band is not a simple 50/50 average.

Task 2 counts more than Task 1 in the official IELTS Writing score, so a strong or weak Task 2 answer has a bigger effect on your overall result.

If AI grading fails

If the app cannot reach the grading service:

• your answers are still saved
• you can still review your essays
• you can return to the Practice Library and try again later

The most common reason is a missing or unstable internet connection.

• close the results and review your essays
• start a new test attempt
